The Next Tide: Alabama Football in the Post-Saban Era

As we edge closer to the 2024 college football season, anticipation builds around the performance of the Alabama Crimson Tide in the post-Nick Saban era. With the legendary Saban having secured six national championships since 2007, his departure marks the end of a historic chapter. Now, all eyes are on Kalen DeBoer, who steps in as Alabama's new head coach following an impressive stint with the Washington Huskies, where he led them to the national championship game last season.

ESPN's Paul Finebaum has weighed in on Alabama's prospects this season, predicting a 10-2 record for the Crimson Tide. "I think 10-2 is my number right now," Finebaum stated, reflecting a cautiously optimistic outlook for DeBoer's inaugural season at Alabama.

In the SEC Championship game last December, Alabama's quarterback Jalen Milroe showcased his skills against Georgia, a match that remains a key reference point for analyzing the team's potential. Despite the uncertainties, ESPN's Football Power Index aligns closely with Finebaum's prediction, forecasting a 9-3 finish for Alabama but still ranking them as the fifth-best team in the nation.

Interestingly, Alabama boasts a 14.4% chance of winning the SEC, a 57.2% probability of making the College Football Playoff, and a 15.3% likelihood of reaching the national championship game. These figures suggest that while there may be challenges ahead, the Crimson Tide remains a formidable force in college football.
